control of breath = control of mind
control of mind = control of body
Control of body = all sorts of amazing things like feeling good and looking good!
So, breathe...and everything will fall into place.
Yoga goals:
Try to relax the breathing... Longer deeper breaths will help control and progress the posture. (It is difficult to deepen a posture - and therefore improve the body/mind - while holding your breath or breathing too shallow.)
Try to quiet the breathing... Our goal for the whole hour of yoga is deep, quiet breaths through the nose. Imagine you want to hear a pin drop on the floor. The breath would need to be perfectly silent and controlled.
Try to take these goals outside of the yoga room... We often hold our breath during tense moments. Quieting, lengthening and deepening the breath will relax you. During a tense moment, stop and take a six second inhale and eight second exhale. Repeat as necessary. Ahhhhh.....
